Best of Summer 2018 in Winter and College Park

My Summer Break has officially come to a close (I’m a teacher.) I didn’t go anywhere new or cool, but I did accomplish my goal of knitting and crocheting like crazy. I binged on Netflix’s Jessica Jones (it’s sooooo gooood!) I finally finished the Appalachian Baby Blanket that took me an entire year. Other cool activities included:

-The opening of Gratitude Coffee Shop in College Park! Still the best cold brew and so reasonably priced. I actually had a dream some big company bought her out and was charging $7 for a cold brew but everyone still gladly paid it.

-The opening of The Heavy in the old Lombardi’s spot. While the aesthetic is supreme, it’s mostly overpriced plants and pots. I’ll stick to my trusty Florida Cactus Inc. in Apopka. While it’s a bit of a drive and there’s no coffee bar, it’s a whole experience that can’t be duplicated.

-32789 lunches that include Black Bean Deli, Mediterranean Deli, and my new favorite, Soho Juice that whips up heavenly smoothie bowls that stay on your mind.

-and of course… more crystals because I’m officially obsessed.

My Obsession with Spring Break/Knitting Update

I just love when my desk looks like this. No styling was done to achieve this look.

As teachers, we have Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break. Thanksgiving and Winter Break are usually hectic and not very relaxing with family functions, cooking and baking, gift buying, gift returning, etc. But Spring Break… oh Spring Break is the sweet one, especially in Winter Park. It’s the time of the Winter Park Art Festival, the Rifle Paper Co. Sidewalk Sale, St. Patrick’s Day… and just barely beach weather. It’s been particularly cold this Spring Break with a random storm on Tuesday (hello hail!)

Baby Blanket

I’m still working on the Appalachian Baby Blanket, I’m about done with 2 balls of yarn now. My goal is to finish it by July, which will be a year since I started it. Yikes.

New General

New General, Winter Park FL

Last week, I thought I saw a picture on Instagram of this place but forgot what it was called and where it was. I drove up and down Park Ave looking for it and couldn’t find it. I tried googling it but was searching “General Store” and came up with nothing. I gave up and thought maybe I imagined it or something but then my cousin texted me about it and told me where it actually was. It’s right down from Luma next to Colonial Drugs. I can’t remember what the building used to be. It’s so cool, it’s almost too cool for Winter Park, but is Winter Park becoming dare-I-say ‘that’ cool? It has everything¬† we love right now; cacti, neutral colors, ridiculously high priced leather goods, canvas, clogs, and tiny wooden bowls. Oh and coffee. The cold brew was delicious, very strong. I only tasted it since I’m off coffee right now and my cold brew heart belongs to Gratitude Coffee.

Yarn Truck

This Saturday morning, I ventured down Fairbanks to the Black Sheep’s new location. Every third Saturday, Four Purls of Winter Haven brings a little slice of their shop via a truck to the 32789. The truck offered a friendly, fabulous selection of yarns I have been longing to see and touch in person. They carry they good stuff- Madeline Tosh, Malabrigo, Knit Collage, and much more. A visit to their brick and mortar store is definitely in my future, but a quick fix to the truck was just what I needed in this yarn-starved WP.

I left with a skein of Knit Collage Gypsy Garden and a Malabrigo that will both end up as hats, I’m betting… I celebrated with a Matcha Milk from Krungthep, naturally.

Current Obsessions

Summer has officially announced itself in Winter Park. 90 degree weather makes it unpleasant to knit the wooly warm stuff anymore, so inside I go with a short, small projects and a nice cold beer. I joined the rest of civilized society and signed up for Birchbox. I received the free Rifle Paper Co. notebooks for April, yay! I also found Cigar City’s Strawberry Shortcake beer at Whole Foods to accompany its un-boxing.

My third trip to Valhalla Bakery was startling. I arrived 15 min. before it opened and there was a still line already assembled around the building. I made sure to get a dozen this time to get my fix in because I can’t handle an0ther 30 min. wait in line! The Pistachio-Rosewater flavor was heavenly though!

In love with the TONYMOLY Korean brand now at the WP Village Ulta. The face masks are amazing, the strawberry nose strips are absolutely delightful smelling and work better than Biore. Also obsessed the with little Panda eye brightening stick. The bunny sleek mist I use as a makeup setter.

Spring Break So Far…

Spring Break 2016 kicked off with Art Festival that was accompanied by very fickle weather…

Checked out a new yarn shop on Fairbanks called “Gabriella’s Yarn Shop.” They carried the typical bright, tacky, shawl and sock yarns. I didn’t even see a lick of bulky yarn and it’s not like anyone was assisting me to find it. The entire time I wandering around, the woman working didn’t even acknowledge my presence. Can’t see myself stopping in for a 2nd visit.
